This class is ideal for the beginner with no previous knowledge of HTML. Students attending this beginner course will walk away with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of web design and development using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Attendees will learn using clear, easy-to-follow instructions, have access to a password-protected student workroom area and walk away with the very basics of HTML programming.

• HTML “Grammar,” Tags & Syntax
• Nesting Tags
• Special Symbols
• File Names

HTML Building Blocks

• Planning your site

HTML Text Formatting

• Working with paragraphs
• Fonts, text and colors
• Superscripts & subscripts
• Blockquotes & line breaks

Course Level & Prerequisites

Beginners (previous experience: proficiency with word processing, basic knowledge of the Internet and web browsing. Familiarity with Microsoft and/or Apple operating system also required.)

Creating Links

• Absolute vs. relative links    
• Anchor links
• Linking to specific windows
• Class Discussion: The artistry of linking

• Creating a simple frameset
• Creating frames in columns
• Creating frames in rows and columns
• Hiding or showing scrollbars
• Frame borders and colors
• Targeting links in particular frames
• Nesting framesets

STUDENT ASSIGNMENT

Working with forms (front end only)

• Form elements (text boxes, radio buttons, checkboxes and more)
• Submit buttons (default & image)
